Institutional Open Access publishing agreements shape more than cost, they influence the quality, transparency, and ethics of research publishing. Ensuring rigor and trust is not solely the job of researchers or publishers. Libraries, consortia, and institutions – the signatories to these agreements – are increasingly central in setting expectations for integrity and accountability.

This Karger in Conversation session explores the shared responsibility behind OA agreements, with a focus on collaboration rather than blame. We’ll discuss how negotiators can balance cost, speed, and openness without compromising research quality, what values-driven agreements look like in practice, and how institutions can take a leading role.

Join us for a practical, forward-looking discussion bringing together perspectives from libraries, consortia, and industry experts to explore how Open Access agreements can reflect and reinforce the principles that matter most.

Our panelists will be Rob Johnson / Managing Director of Research Consulting, Anna Vernon / Head of portfolio and content licensing, JISC UK and Petra Labriga / Head, Strategic Licensing & Acquisition ZBMed, National Library of Medicine and Institute for Life Sciences, Germany.
