Beyond the Balance Sheet: Business, Primary Sources, AI, & Information Literacy

Join Purdue University business information specialist Annette Bochenek and Clarivate’s Chris Cotton for a practical conversation about teaching business differently with primary sources. Through classroom examples and rare archival content, this session will explore how materials related to women and work, fashion and consumer culture, entertainment and film, and historical business contexts can help students ask better questions, evaluate evidence, and uncover insights that traditional business sources may miss.

Participants will learn:

• What primary sources reveal beyond traditional business research
• Teaching examples from women and work, fashion, film, and business history
• How AI and digital humanities build information literacy through primary source analysis
• Ways to develop classroom assignments and research activities using archival content
• Attendees will also gain a brief introduction to text and data mining techniques that can extend analysis across larger bodies of archival material

Presenters: Annette Bochenek is Associate Professor and Business Librarian at Purdue University, with expertise in primary source literacy and business research instruction. Chris Cotton is Senior Manager, Product Management at Clarivate, supporting ProQuest Digital Collections and primary source content across multiple disciplines.
